Black Copper / Blue Copper Marans
Black Copper / Blue Copper Marans
The Marans chicken produced one of the darkest chocolate brown eggs of any breed and we love the Black and Blue Copper Varieties for their beautiful, rich copper and black/blue colors. Often kept as an egg laying breed, a Marans hen can lay 200 or more delicious chocolate brown eggs per year, however the darker the egg they lay, the lower their egg production may be. Please note that I cannot guarantee egg color on any particular hen, I've included photos of multiple dozens of my eggs from 2023 and the first set collected for incubation in 2024. Egg color DOES fade over the laying season, so the eggs collected in March are often much darker than the eggs collected in September. Birds from the lighter eggs are the same genetics as those from the darker eggs earlier in the season. I am always glad to send you photos of the EXACT eggs you'll be receiving.
Males weigh approximately 6 lbs, and females 5 lbs, so they work well if you're looking for a breed that can lay a good number of farm fresh eggs, as well as be put to use as a table bird.
We have found our Marans to be a docile breed, making a great addition to any small hobby farm, homestead, family flock or show string all while adding an extra "pop" of color to your egg basket. This breed is a must have for almost all breeders of beautiful rainbow eggs as they can deepen the color of almost any other color of egg layer.
