THE FIRST PRODUCT FOR STRUCTURAL SOUNDNESS TO LEGALLY CONTAIN NATURAL LEVELS OF GLUCOSAMINE AND CHONDROITIN SULFATE FOR SWINE
Premier Nutrition’s newest member TWO STEP is formulated using a patented blend of cartilage that contains the entire family of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) found naturally in your pig’s body. This family of GAGs includes glucosamine (involved in the release of joint lubricating synovial fluid), chondroitin sulfate and other sulfur-containing compounds and hyaluronic acid – all of which play an important role in cartilage formation. We have also included wheat germ oil and meal, high levels of vitamin E and C, natural levels of Poly Unsaturated Fatty Acids (Omega 3's and 6's), Betaine, Methionine, Niacinamide, Biotin, Probiotics, and FOS.
How GAG’s in TWO STEP Work: When your pig consumes the patented blend of cartilage contained in TWO STEP the GAGs are absorbed from your pigs stomach into the body. The GAGs are probably broken down into proteoglycans first. The six different basic GAGs are similar in structure and composed of the same proteoglycans, so the various GAGs are somewhat interchangeable. After leaving the stomach, the GAGs reappear in the cartilage of the joints after having been carried by the blood system to the site near the cartilage and then migrating across cell membranes into the cartilage. There is no blood system in the cartilage which is why GAGS are somewhat slow acting. To help you better understand this, please find a diagram below of a synovial joint.
What are Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are naturally occurring substances that have been shown to contribute to the formation of cartilage and thus help in relieving joint pain and other symptoms of osteoarthritis. While glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are the most commonly know GAGs, there are "other GAGS" such as hyaluronic acid and essential sulfur-containing compounds that are just as essential to cartilage formation. Unlike other products currently available on the market TWO STEP contains high levels of all these naturally occurring compounds and is the only product on the market to be offered to Swine that contains this patented cartilage mix. The cartilage mix used in Two Step has received a letter of non-objection meaning it can be legally offered to swine.
NO SYNTHETIC INGREDIENTS: Cartilage cells found in the joint are called chondrocytes. These cells produce chondroitin sulfate – a GAG essential to cartilage growth and maintenance. Because TWO STEP is formulated from natural cartilage, it is naturally rich in all the essential GAGs including chondroitin sulfate. Unlike other joint supplements that contain synthetic forms of GAGs (such as Glucosamine HCl) that are not recognized as approved food ingredients by the FDA (the cartilage found in TWO STEP has a non-objection letter), TWO STEP is 100% natural. It contains NO synthetic ingredients or extracted forms of glucosamine.
How Pure are the GAGs in Two Step: The GAGs in TWO STEP are 100% pure and natural because they are never completely withdrawn from the original natural source of material. The GAGs in most pill products for humans are not pure because they have been processed. One must remember these human pill products are not approved to be fed to swine in addition to not being natural or containing 100% pure form of GAGs.
Why is Betaine and Methionine added to Two Step? Betaine and methionine are methyl donors, nutrients that have been studied in relation to the immune system and in detoxification and antioxidant processes. Methionine is an essential amino acid and the precursor of the master methyl donor in the body, s-adensoylmethionine, or SAMe. Methionine is required for synthesis of cysteine, and antioxidant that also serves as a precursor of glutathione, the most widely distributed antioxidant in the body. Sulfur from methionine is also used for the sulfation of GAGs and the cross linking of collagen. Betaine serves to promote the "methionine pump", recovering methionine for renewed production of SAMe. According to one researcher, SAMe "ranks with ATP as a pivotal molecule in biology." SAMe supports the synthesis of proteoglycans, and has been studied in a number of successful clinical trials.
Why add Manganese: Manganese, an essential trace mineral, is required for the activation of enzymes required in the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans. Research has shown Manganese aids in the production of cartilage lubrication.
Vitamin C: Production and protection: Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) helps in the formation of collagen and GAGs, and also mediates the release of histamine and other pro-inflammatory compounds. Vitamin C also provides broad antioxidant protection against the free radicals that can damage vital tissues. In collagen synthesis, Vitamin C serves both the regulate the startup process as well as the mature the collagen protein in the final stage of production. Like glucosamine, Vitamin C has been shown in laboratory testing to stimulate manufacture of the large proteoglycan (PG) lubricants. The natural levels of glucosamine and Vitamin C in TWO STEP work together to enhance nutritional synergies.
Vitamin E: This fat soluble antioxidant has been shown to aid in the treatment of joint health. In a study out of the Centre Hospitalo-Universitaire Xavier Bichat in Paris, Vitamin E seemed to uncouple joint inflammation and joint destruction in an animal model.
PUFA's: Also known as Poly-unsaturated fatty acids or essential fatty acids. Research in animals has concluded these important fatty acids can aid in reducing pain and inflammation.
Niacinamide: One of the most exiting new developments in the treatment of arthritis in humans comes from a study at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Diego. While trying to determine why cartilage breaks down, research found that the root of the roblem may be a lack of oxygen reaching the tiny energy-producers known as mitochondria, often considered the "powerhouses" of our cells. Without enough oxygen, the cartilage cells can’t carry on their normal function, so cartilage breaks down. What’s behind the oxygen shortage? Researches blame nitric oxide, a toxic gas found in the body. In a recent review of alternative remedies, it was reported that niacinamide, a B vitamin, prevented nitric oxide production, essentially giving cartilage cells more breathing room. In addition, to help with the oxygen uptake we have included Wheat Germ products to fuel this Mitochondria.
Optimizing Hoof Production: We also added products to TWO STEP to promote healthy hoof production. D-biotin, zinc methionine, and other amino acids are the synergistic ingredients necessary to develop the protein matrix (which is the vehicle that makes hoofs grow), in a perfectly balanced ratio for maximum hoof health and growth. You will find a secondary benefit of a healthy coat and skin.
Probiotics and FOS: Finally, TWO STEP is finished out with the addition of Probiotics and FOS. We added these products to ensure your pig fully utilize the nutrients in TWO STEP and helps keep your pig in peak condition.
Feeding Directions: TWO STEP is an all natural product that is perfectly safe to feed to all classes of swine. There is no withdrawal period prior to slaughter. Maximum benefit from TWO STEP can be seen in animals maintained on a high plane of nutrition by adding one to two ounces per head per day as a top dress to daily feed. For ideal results, we suggest starting pigs at 50 pounds or before the introduction of muscle enhancement products such as Paylean.
